This project is about parents that loose there baby before it was born.
I was very interested in the fact that the baby had no chance to leave a
real memory behind. Only the mother (and the father) had a shared
experience with the baby.

A few years ago the hospital would cremate the baby. But I found out
that now a days the parents can take their baby home and arrange a burial
or cremation themselves.

When the parents decide to take their baby home, they mostly put it in
the living room and care for it 3 days, 24 hours a day. They send out a
birth card that’s an obituary at the same time, they invite people and they
do as much they can to make this time special.

A lot of people will find this morbid or crazy, I think it’s not really accepted
and that’s why there are no rules or rituals for this event yet. But I respect
the parents because this way they can get closure.

Therefore I researched this whole subject, I found out that there’s a big
offer of services for the cremation or burial, but not for the 3 days the baby
will be at home. For me this is the most important part, these 3 days are the
only chance the parents have to create memories with their baby.

That’s why I designed clothing, beds and bedsheets. When making the clothes
I was inspired by the form and the size of the babies. The baby evolves and
so does the clothing. The clothes are easy to put on, mostly the arms and legs
don’t have to be bend and the baby doesn’t have to be picked up.

After the 3 days the parents can decide to bury the baby and keep the clothes
and the bed. But they can also close the bed and change it into a coffin.
